the world’s highest fountain

the pumps which power king fahd’s fountain in jeddah, saudi arabia, are so powerful that the water plume produced is taller than the eiffel tower (excluding its antenna).

the maximum height achieved by the water is 1023ft and each of the 3 huge pumps deliver 625 litres of water per second. the water leaves the 126mm nozzles at an incredible 375kmh.

here’s the beast in action…

  2. It’s actually kind of ugly– it ends up looking less like a big fountain, and more like a wimpy waterfall!

  4. So… They’re in the middle of a desert, and they’ve built a giant fountain that shoots water a thousand feet into the air. (they’re on the coast, so I guess it’s the edge of the desert, but still)

Please tell me that’s sea water their spouting.

  6. Imágenes extraordinarias. La fuerza que debe arrojar ese chorro para llegar a esa altura debe ser increible…. 375 km/hp … awesome

  7. Yes it is spraying sea water. And as a result there were special considerations when the founatain was being built.

  14. WOW! That is tall and pretty amazing. I’ve never seen any fountain anywhere close to that size.

  15. It should be “tallest”, not “highest”.

  17. Wow, that’s amazing! I want to go buy a bigger SUV, that gets worse gas mileage, so the Saudi royals have even more money to waste on ridiculous useless things.

I wonder how many hungry children could have eaten on the money they wasted on this.
