from a distance you could be fooled into thinking this is a thin skyscraper, until you get close enough to realise there are handles on one side and only enough interior space to accomodate ‘little people’.
officially the largest filing cabinet in the world, this 65 ft tall office monster actually serves a purpose, of sorts. inside it is a dismantled mg sports car, the parts organised, labelled and filed in the drawers, heaviest to lightest.
it stood in napa valley, california and was created by ‘artist’ sam yates in 2000. i’ve no idea whether it still stands.

It’s like porn for accountants…
I think you’ll find accountants are into regular porn like everyone else, but only far, far worse.
I do not speak from personal experience.
must be the most unlikely post ever to start a conversation about porn.
I can’t believe it went from ‘filing cabinet sculpture’ to porn in 1 comment.
It is a little phallic.
Too bad it’s not truly a single filing cabinet, but several stacked.
this is the illegal document filing cabinet of this administration
ha
This leviathan still stands. I saw it about 5 months ago, and it’s on permanent exhibition there. Amazingly enough, the hole thing extends about another 60 feet below ground, so it doesn’t just topple over. Also, the drawers contain an entire shredded car.
It’s still standing, I saw it a few weekends ago. It’s at the di Rosa Art Preserve in Napa, California. Unfortunately, when I was there, they weren’t doing a tour through the sculpture park so I couldn’t get close to it.
i too enjoy porn
There’s another one of these on Flynn Ave. in Burlington, VT
@katulu: And from filing cabinets to Bush hating in a mere six posts! Ah, the webernets…so full of such intelligent induhviduals.
dude, you consistently find THE. MOST. INTERESTING. SHIT. ON THE INTERNETS.
Oh I’ve seen that up close!
Its at the Di Rosa Art Reserve!
Awesome stuff there.
(:
What kind of car is shredded up and stuffed inside the file cabinet?Just curious.
The one in Burlington VT isn’t quite as tall (it’s 37 drawers), and doesn’t seem to have a sportscar inside. I think it dates to the mid-1970s.
I’m skeptical of the Napa one extending anywhere near sixty feet down; maybe ten or twenty. You just don’t buy much additional stability past that for something so narrow, and digging is really expensive. The Burlington cabinet is bolted to a concrete pad.
