normal hotels are so last year. these days only losers opt to book into traditional buildings on solid ground when planning holidays.
next time you go away, try one of these for size…
jules’ undersea lodge, key largo, florida
at a depth of 30feet, just to get to this hotel requires each guest to dive underwater in scuba gear. there are 2 private bedrooms and a commnual area / kitchen with the website claiming ‘600 square feet of luxury living space’ on the lagoon bed. take a look and make your own mind up.
the next photo, from the hotel website, is genius…
harlingen lighthouse, harlingen, netherlands

fancy a whole lighthouse to yourself for a few days? i do, but seeing as the one in fraggle rock isn’t available i suppose this luxury one in harlingen will do. it has 3 floors, the top floor containing the main living area which originally housed the ginormous lamp in the good old days. you can expect beautiful panoramic views and the ability to listen to the boat owners chatting / sending out an s.o.s. to the harbour authorities using the vhf radio.
harlingen harbour crane, harlingen, netherlands

apart from an oil rig the last place i’d expect to find holiday accomodation is inside a crane. lo and behold, it’s been done, and it looks really frikkin’ cosy in there. brought to you by the same people that converted the lighthouse above, the crane can take 2 people at a time. the best bit by far though is the ability to actually swing the bastard at will (sounds dangerous to me but who cares?) and possibly cause havoc amongst the locals.
das parkhotel, linz, austria

have you ever been on holiday, sat in a sewage pipe with your laptop, unable to locate an internet connection? well fear no more because these little beauties, part of the ‘das parkhotel’ comlpex, are intertubes-ready. they’re also the weirdest hotel rooms i’ve ever seen. basically just concrete cylinders with a hole for air & light and a front door, one of the other ‘features’ is under-bed storage. woohoo! also, you can apparently reserve a tube online and pay any amount you like when you leave.

What’s the plan for your tube-room if it’s raining? I don’t see any sort of covering on the air-holes… otherwise, those are actually sort of a neat idea.
