this film is not yet rated (2006)

get it while you can chaps, this’ll be gone soon.

it’s the full movie and if you don’t already know it’s about the motion picture association of america (mpaa) film rating system - imdb link.

it’s funny and worrying in equal doses and the best thing you can do right now is watch it through your balls (eye)….

(there’s an interesting interview with the director here)

  1. Great post DD. I just watched it and it’s a fantastic reveal of a shadowy, secretive, self-regulating and self-serving anonymous group of censors. The next time we criticise American films it’s worth giving a thought to this bizarre, biased ratings/censorship process that does filmmakers no favours.

  2. One of my favorite docs this year. It’s such a hassle here in the US where nudity/sex is such a taboo but violence, especially real life depictions are on our tv regularly. Video Game violence is a different story. They should do the same type of documentary on the ESRB.

  3. I gotta say I’m EXTREMELY pissed. Even if you take into account that he might have been edited in favor of the directors view, you can’t say that he put those words into those peoples mouths. Hell most the raters who “represent” the parents are divorced middle aged men and women. Only one had kids who were young enough to monitor what they watch. There wasn’t a diverse enough demographic to actually represent enough of the american people. The fact they have clergymen isn;t wrong since they represent a large demographic. However, there are also muslims, jewish, buddhists etc that should be represented as well.

It’s like the Bush administration. Frankly don’t listen to them if you don’t agree. In the end it’s up to the parents what their kids watch, that rating system shouldn’t have the final say.

  4. Forgot to say thanks for posting. I honestly never heard of this film (likely due to censorship) so I probably never would’ve watched unless I had stumbled here.

    Thanks again
